Children’s Care, Learning and Development (NQF). Level 2
What will I study?
This course is changing and some of the data below may change by next September.
This course is over one year has a combination of practical experience and written assignments providing level 2 learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for a career in the childcare sector.
Units offered include understanding children’s development, keeping children safe and supporting children with disabilities or special educational needs.
What does it combine with?
This course is a standalone course but you may wish to move to a level 3 childcare qualification at college, if you do well, or apply for an apprenticeship. You may re-sit your GCSE maths & English alongside this course.
What can it lead on to?
BTEC Firsts in Children’s Care, Learning and Development can help you take your first steps towards a career in childcare. The course itself is a standalone qualification which means you could also get a job afterwards! Career opportunities could be in the private nursery sector as a nursery assistant or a childminding assistant. Some school settings may have job opportunities but very often they require a level 3 qualification.

You will need to have a DBS- an enhanced check to allow you to work with young children.
There is work experience. This could be in a nursery, school or other play & learning setting
5 or more GCSEs at grades D/E including at least a D in English.
